Not sleeping well when camping?
I have to say, probably the worst thing about camping is when you don’t get a good night’s sleep. Nothing seems to compare to the bed at home, but today you can get mattresses for camping that are actually quite comfortable. Long gone are the days where you slept on a 1cm thick piece of foam! Today, you can get mattresses that are very compact, little pumps that will get them ready in under a minute and best of all you get a good night’s sleep. Personally, I prefer the mattresses that have half foam and half air, but it really depends on what you want.
At the end of the day though, sleep is very important. I have found that trying to save money on sleeping bags and mattresses is simply not worth it. The savings sure don’t make up for the hours that you lie awake trying to get to sleep! Of course, you don’t have to get the most expensive Coleman Air Mattress, but by getting something that is comfortable I can guarantee you won’t regret it! Likewise, Coleman Sleeping Bags are an investment for your camping trips!
Something else that will ensure you get a good sleep is a Portable Shower. These can be purchased for under 50 dollars, and mean you can have a hot shower before bed. I think they are worth their weight in gold! Also, if you lay in bed trying to put off going to the toilet at night because its difficult when you are camping, consider getting a Portable Toilet. These are also relatively cheap but make your life a lot easier!
Types of Camping Mattresses
Camping Mattresses today tend to be either fully inflatable, part foam or completely foam. The issue with foam is that it doesn’t compact as much, but if you have a four wheel drive and a trailer then space isn’t such an issue. You can get mattresses that self inflate, ones that need pumping up and of course foam mattresses don’t require any inflation. Of course, the thicknesses vary considerably. You can still buy mattresses that are 1cm thick, but I stay very clear of those! However, if you are hiking and space is a problem then that might be what you are stuck with, although you can get fully inflatable ones for hardly anything these days which are much more comfortable.

Try and match the mattress up with what you want it to do. Double Mattresses are handy, but not always everyone’s cup of tea. At the end of the day though there are enough Camping Mattresses to please just about anyone, and you just need to take the time to look around and get something that is good quality.
Coleman Air Mattress
Coleman has been around for a long time. They have also been making mattresses for a long time. You can visibly see that what they sell has a good quality about it, and after using a large amount of their camping gear I can personally vouch that they are well worth the money. Of course, take the time to find something that you want or you will regret it regardless of the brand you go with!
Camping Mattress Pumps
If you are going with the inflatable option, make sure that you get a pump to go with it. I recommend the 12V ones that plug into your cigarette. You can get these for fewer than 20 dollars, and they pump mattresses up very quickly. If you don’t have access to a vehicle then a foot pump or just a small hand pump is still better than nothing! It’s quite tiring blowing up a huge mattress without a pump!

Coleman Air Mattress Sizes
You can get a Coleman Air Mattress in quite a few different sizes. Normal mattresses will fit the average person, or you can get king single, double, queen and even king sized mattresses. You can even get double height mattresses, for that extra level of comfort. I would suggest getting a ‘cot’ as well, as you find that these are considerably more comfortable than sleeping on the ground. On top of this, you stay away from all of the bugs and dirt on the floor!
Personally, I think its well worth spending extra money on a good quality Coleman Air Mattress. For the time that you spend on them, they become something that will either make or break your day. Let’s face it, an extra 50 dollars is well worth the hundreds of nights that you will spend sleeping on it! On top of this, a Coleman Air Mattress is no more expensive than many of the other camping brands, but they do come with a great brand’s reputation.
