Coleman Chairs

The Coleman Executive

The Coleman Executive

Coleman is a very well known company involved in the camping and travel industry. Over the years they have built up a strong reputation for having high quality gear, and today they dominate a large portion of the camping market, throughout the world.  I don’t think that I have ever had a bad quality Coleman product, which is why I support them! Obviously, Coleman do make some cheaper items too (which aren’t going to be as good as their more expensive cousins), but I think most campers will agree that Coleman makes good quality products. I know that the Coleman cooking stove in our family has been thrown around for and it still works as if it’s brand new!

I thought it would be a good idea to write a post on Coleman Chairs, because this is something of great importance when you are camping. There is nothing worse than having to sit in a junky chair around the fire. Just like a poor quality bed when you are camping, a chair that is uncomfortable is going to ruin your trip! Coleman Chairs come in a large variety of sizes, shapes and costs. However, even the cheaper chairs in their range are good quality. Sure, we all know that you can go to your local supermarket and purchase a Camping Chair for around $10, but if you have used them much at all you know why people who spend a lot of time in the bush don’t buy them!

The reasons are simple; they are built on a tiny budget and as such are very poor quality. They might last for a while and be comfortable enough, but in the long run you will end up replacing it over and over again, until you could have purchased Coleman Chairs that would still be going strong. I will be the first to admit that I have spent a lot of money on camping gear because it was cheap. However, what you learn a few months later is that you actually cost yourself more money because you have to keep replacing the cheap junk. You are so much better off getting something that is more expensive because it lasts for a lot longer and will eventually save you money (not to mention the additional comfort it offers!)!

Where can you purchase Coleman Chairs from?

Coleman Chairs can be purchased online at a number of stores, or most camping stores carry at least a bit of their gear. The larger camping stores will have a lot of Coleman Chairs, because like I mentioned before, they dominate a huge portion of the camping market. Make sure that you try the chairs out though; everyone likes different chairs, and you want to get something that is going to be comfortable!

Coleman Bigfoot range

I thought I would just mention the Coleman Bigfoot range, which is only relatively new to Coleman. It is aimed at those that are a taller and bigger than most people, as the average height seems to continue growing. Being 6”6 I can well and truly relate to sleeping bags that are too small, mattresses that are not long enough, chairs that are tiny and many of the other issues that tall people have. A while back I purchased a Coleman Bigfoot sleeping bag, and haven’t looked back. Sure, you end up with something that is a bit bigger to pack away, but it’s worth it on a cold night when you can actually get the sleeping bag over your shoulders!

The Coleman Bigfoot range includes a number of chairs too, for those that are taller or bigger. These are generally a little bit more expensive, but they are a lot more comfortable, and well worth the extra money.

Why are Coleman Chairs superior?

Simply put, Coleman Chairs are well designed and constructed. Right from the material used through to the way that they are manufactured, a Coleman Chair will take a lot more of a hammering than your cheaper Camping Chairs. Of course, if you abuse them then expect them to break, but if you look after the chair and use it as it was designed you will have a Coleman Chair for many years. These are often designed well with cup holders, pockets to keep your keys and wallets safe and dry and are in general more comfortable than the cheap chairs. Of course, I am not saying that Coleman is the best, because there are a lot more expensive Camping Chairs that you can purchase. However, for the price that you pay and for what you get, Coleman Chairs do very well. For the average camper these are a great option.

Other Camping Gear worth getting

There is a lot of camping gear that is worth buying, which will make your trips much easier and enjoyable. If you know someone that hates going camping because they can't keep clean or have a bit of privacy, or the lighting is too poor or what ever the excuse is, there is a solution. I recommend getting an Ice Chest or fridge (that runs off your car batter or Camper Trailer), a good quality Camping Light, a Portable Shower and Portable Toilet along with a Coleman Air Mattress. The great thing is that these are not that expensive, but they make such a difference - particularly the toilet and shower!

Overall, if you go camping relatively regularly I would highly recommend looking at Coleman Chairs because they have a proven history to be good quality. If you have any issues with them you can take them back without much of an issue, which is always handy. Of course, do your research and shop around; you may find other brands that are just as reputable for a competitive price too!

Normally I would agree…Coleman products are great.
But after a number of years camping, I have come to the conclusion that any chair with the design you have there is subject to failure. The design where they have the crossover bars supported by plastic or rubber wedges is going to crack eventually.
I saw two new looking coleman chairs, big ones, both wrecked and laying by the bin at Bremer Bay.
Having destroyed a couple myself as well, of that design, that design is flawed.
Better off having a fold out style.
Totally agree with the sentiment of your post though. You sit around the fire or campsite chatting, you need to be comfortable and well supported. A few dollars is better spent on something which will last.

I can see where you are coming from. I don’t believe even the best of chairs will last forever, but for the majority of those who are camping they last long enough! I know that they last a lot longer than the $8 ones from several stores; you get what you pay for! I like the fold out style, but they tend not to be as comfortable and they still break too; I have broken a number myself!
