Camping Kebabs; a great side
Keen on a simple, easy and tasty Camping Kebab option? Here you go!
There’s nothing better than a tasty camping meal at the end of a day in the bush. We love trying different cooking methods, and recipes, and are working on building a camping recipe section of this site, where you’ll be able to see all of our favourites.
Our cooking has to be quick, tasty and reasonably nutritious, and making sure that our young kids will actually eat it is a priority too. Lately, we’ve been doing a number of different Camping Kebab’s, and they are a brilliant option, that we’ve included in our Easy Camping Meals post.
These can be done on a grill over the fire, or on a BBQ, hot plate or in a Weber Q. You can use just about any ingredient that you want (including sweet options), but our go to is marinated chicken and vegetables, and its delicious.
All you need is some decent stainless steel kebab skewers, a variety of ingredients and you are well on your way.
If you are prepared, you can cut the chicken into pieces and put them in a zip lock bag, or re-usable container with marinate to absorb the tastiness. If you don’t have much time, just marinate them before you cook them.
Slide the chicken and other vegetables onto the skewers, and stick them over the fire on a grill, or in your weber, or even in a frying pan. Rotate when there’s a bit of char on each side, and check they are cooked before you hand them out.
What you end up with is a tasty entrée, or main meal that goes with a heap of other foods. We like to do it with fried rice, or as a side to a salad.
If you aren’t into chicken, you can do any other meat that tickles your fancy, and there are some amazing marinates that are either store bought, or completely hand made.
Now, I will make a point of mentioning that the vegetables always cook much faster than the meat, and its probably a good idea to partly cook the meat before you put them on skewers, but it does work together if you are careful with the heat.
