Adventure Cave Tour in the South West

The south west houses some of the most incredible parts of WA. From pristine beaches through to stunning wineries, massive surf and a mass of underground caves like you have never seen before, there is truly something for everyone.

I’ve been in most of the caves surrounding Margaret River, Dunsborough and Yallingup, and they are all well worth a look. I’ve also done a number of adventure tours inside the caves, and had a lot of fun.

Ngilgi Cave

Ngilgi is one of many caves in the south west of WA that is extremely popular for tourists. It has been set up with stunning lights to showcase the incredible crystal growth within the cave over the last many, many years.

Where is Ngilgi Cave?

Ngilgi Cave is 255km south west of Perth, in between Yallingup and Dunsborough. It is located just off Caves road, and is easily accessible for all vehicle types.

About the Ngilgi Cave adventure tours

For those who are looking to get off the path and explore further down in the cave, you have the opportunity to do an adventure tour. This involves headlamps and climbing through the cave for several hours.

There are two tours available as we speak – the crystal crawl, and the ultimate adventure tour. The crystal crawl is 3 hours long (ours took 4.5 hours!) and the ultimate adventure 4 hours. In essence, a tour guide sets you up with helmets, gloves, head lamps and a bit of training, and then takes you through the intricacies of the cave, explaining growth and various parts of the cave.

There are several parts where you have to squeeze in between rocks, and sit in odd positions. It is a lot of fun though!

What does the adventure tour cost?

To do the crystal crawl, it is $105 per person, and the ultimate adventure tour is $152. You have to be over 15 to do the adventure tours, physically fit and comfortable underground!

Next time you are in the South west, this is one of the things I’d highly recommend doing; it is truly an epic experience. If you are keen to get off the beaten track outside of the caves, check out the 4WD Tracks Margaret River.
