Dalmeny Camping Ground; a brilliant choice for everyone

If you’re chasing a fantastic camping opportunity on the southern part of the NSW coastline that suits every style of camping, Dalmeny Camping Ground is a brilliant option. We stumbled across this little gem on our travels south, and stayed 2 great nights. The beach (which is stunning) is just across the road, (and viewable from camp), a gorgeous creek flows into the ocean opposite camp and the town shops are literally a few hundred metres away.

Where is Dalmeny?

From Sydney, you’re looking at about 4.5 hours drive south. It’s literally 10 minutes from Narooma, where you can see a heap of seals laying near the boat ramp, or swimming in the stunning water. It’s also not that far from Mystery Bay, which is another great camping option on the coast.

What is the Dalmeny Camping Ground?

This spot is literally in the middle of Dalmeny, overlooking the beach. You couldn’t get more prime land if you tried. It’s literally bordered by the ocean, creek, shops and houses.

I was initially put off by it a little, as its shown as a caravan park on the Wikicamps app, and generally we avoid them (especially on the New South Wales coastline where they’re hugely expensive), but this is a shire owned camping area, that is essentially a less formal caravan park. It’s got big sites, and a laid back feel that you often don’t get in a caravan park. I’d say its the best of both worlds!

What amenities do they have?

Dalmeny Camping Ground has a laundry, office to hire paddle and surf boards from, hot showers and flushing toilets, amazing views and some really decent camp sites.

Does it suit all rigs and camping styles?

Yep, this place is set up for everything from a swag through to massive motorhomes, caravans and everything in between. Many of the sites are not that level though, so pack your levelling ramps!

What does it cost to camp?

Camping is $38 a night for a family of 4, which is very reasonable considering the national parks for us are $37 a night, and you get virtually no amenities. You can get power here for an additional cost, if you need it.

What is it really like?

I was quietly surprised at this place. Its much better value than competing caravan parks, but has everything you’d ever need. The town is quiet, stunning and a real gem on the NSW coastline.

A number of the camp sites are quite sloping, so you need decent levelling ramps, rocks or airbags to really get it right.

The showers weren’t the cleanest I’ve seen, but they did the job just fine and I wouldn’t complain too much about it (but some people absolutely would). The location, price and general ambience make it a great place to stay.

Would we stay here again?

Yep, in a heartbeat, and we generally avoid places that are in town, and busy. This is a magic, unique little gem that covers every style of camper. If you’re looking for a great camping area on the NSW coastline that has all of the amenities (including a short walk to IGA and other shops), you won’t go wrong with Dalmeny Campground.
