Wreck Rock; another great Queensland beach camp
We’re always on the look-out for lesser known camp sites that are stunning, low cost and a bit off the beaten path, and Wreck Rock is our latest campground that left us wanting to stay a few more nights. This is a magic camp site tucked behind a piece of coastline that suits everyone from those looking to surf a wave, flick a lure around or spend hours chasing little crabs around the beach.

Where is Wreck Rock Campground?
You’ll find this place about 7km south of Agnes Water, along a 4WD track. It’s in the Deepwater National Park, and roughly an hour and a half drive away from Bundaberg, which is where we’d come from.

What does it cost to stay?
Camping costs are the usual Queensland National Park prices, of $7 per person, or about $29 for a family.

What amenities are there?
There’s drop toilets here, along with a cold shower. We never used either, but its handy to know they are there, and greatly appreciated by those camping without their own setups.

Do you need a 4WD?
No, if you are coming from the southern side, but you certainly need a bit of clearance, as the campground has some decent holes and tree roots to drive around. I’d bring an AWD in with a bit of clearance, but nothing less than this.

Driving from Wreck Rock to Agnes Waters
You can actually get here from Agnes Waters, along a 4WD track that goes past Middle Rocks. This is quite sandy and needs decent clearance. You might sneak a decent AWD down it at times, but I’d only take a 4WD on it.
Is it caravan friendly?
You’d probably struggle to get a caravan into here even from the southern side, just because of the width of the track. The camp sites would fit some vans, but many of them are simply too small. We saw a couple of hybrids and pop top campers, but no full size vans here.
You’d struggle big time trying to tow one from the north, with narrow tracks.

Is it worth a stay?
Yep, we loved Wreck Rock. The beach was stunning at low tide with a beautiful little bay, and watching the tide roll in was stunning as well. We had a ball chasing crabs at night on the beach, splashing around in the water during the day and exploring the little rock pools and coves that develop.

It’s not as good as the truly epic Eurimbula Creek, but it still a ripper place to spend a few days.

I reckon this is one of the ‘forgotten’ national park campgrounds, with lots of bollards missing and knocked over, fire pits in need of some love and a real bush feeling, which we love more than the formal, sterile campgrounds that so many have become.

Hey guys,
Great to hear. Sounds like the dream!
Safe travels!
