Hamelin Station Stay near Shark Bay

I’d heard good things about Hamelin Station Stay, but never had the time to call in and check it out. Earlier this year though, we spent a night there on the way out to Steep Point, and loved it.

It’s the perfect place to relax for a few days, or call in on your way to Denham. Here’s 14 amazing things to do in the Shark Bay region.

Wildlife and Conservation

I wasn’t actually aware of the bush heritage relationship that Hamelin Station Stay had until I arrived. It’s a popular place for bird watchers and other animal lovers to stay, with a huge number of native animals.

The station is run by Bush Heritage Australia, who buys land and establishes private, conservation reserves.

Things to see nearby

The Hamelin Pool Stromatolites are a popular attraction only a few kms up the road, with everything else a decent drive away. Shell beach, Nanga Station, Eagle Bluff, Steep Point, Denham and Francois Peron National Park are all well worthy of a visit too.

If you are up for a real adventure, Dirk Hartog Island is truly mind blowing, and isn’t seen by too many people travelling this great land of ours.

Hamelin Station Stay vs Hamelin Pool Caravan Park

Due to an unfortunate mishap with our bookings, half of our group ended up staying at the Hamelin Pool Caravan Park instead of Hamelin Station.

This was a bit of a pain, as we needed to prepare our gear before heading out to Steep Point. Those that stayed at Hamelin Pool Caravan Park came down to the Station stay, and all commented on how much better it was. I never visited the Caravan Park, but I’ll trust the words of my mates.
